Dear listeners,
we recorded the album on a Friday night after a 40 hour work week, in a studio with a mix console 5m long and the most expensive equipment we ever had a chance to work with. We were very lucky to have had this opportunity to capture our music in such pristine quality. The songs are a bit darker. We were planning to record the more cheerful stuff as well but somehow symbolically couldn't get it done in 2016.
I wrote Berlin in the time when I was working in a hotel breakfast job, getting up at 4am, sleep deprived and half crazy, dozing off reading Naked Lunch in the nudist corner of Tiergarten, feeling the sense of meltdown clouding over a city that slowly changes from a sleepy forgotten paradise island into a high speed centrifuge of capitalist madness.
Burn was inspired by a scene from Michael Haneke's film Seventh Continent in which a well-off middle class Austrian family flushes all their savings down the drain for several minutes. It is probably the most disturbing scene I have ever seen in film.
Guernica is an adaptation of the 1937 painting by Pablo Picasso still surprisingly relevant these days.
Ladder is dedicated to all men and women who suffered under the communist regime in eastern Europe, especially to those who managed to maintain their dignity despite the difficult times.
Wish you all best in 2017,
Pavel
